Deep Flow or Shallow Flow Technique? It was not long ago that I was designing a home hydroponics system that utilized PVC pipe tubes connected to PVC reducers. I thought this design was considered NFT (nutrient film technique) but after a few searches on the web I noticed a few others calling their similar […]
DFT or Deep Flow Technique loosely refers to a hydroponics system with a flow of water going over the root zone. It is sometimes truly a Deep amount of water more similar to a raft system and other times can refer to a shallower flow of nutrient solution which in such cases may better refer to SFT or Shallow Flow Technique.
The DFT hydroponics build #1 that has been discussed previously has been fully operational for a while now and it seems like a good time to go over the system as a whole. It is tagged as a DFT or Deep Flow Technique due to the standing water within the tubes that is more […]
I had both extra time and extra parts & material today so I decided to make use of both. I worked on the deep flow technique hydroponics build #1 (DFT build #1) and wanted to make use of some unused space on the system. I had leftover polyethylene plastic from when I had a […]
Gardening is an enjoyable hobby but it is also a seasonal hobby in most locations. Here in the upper midwest, winter weather keeps people mostly indoors this time of year. Indoor cultivation is a great way to keep your thumb green when weather turns against you. Growing plants indoors in soil filled pots is […]
Just posted another follow up video on the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) Hydroponics Build #1. In earlier posts and videos you can see the initial framework of the project, some images with plants and some without. After growing a good variety of different kinds of plants in this system (lettuce, chive, sage, basil, lemon […]
This is a short video of the recently posted Deep Flow Technique (DFT) indoor semi-vertical hydroponics build that was completed recently. If you are interested, this video will give you a better look at the build from a few different angles. Deep Flow Technique was chosen because it has a few advantages over Nutrient […]
[GARD] The latest project has been completing a semi-vertical DFT (Deep Flow Technique) hydroponic garden unit made to fit in front of a home window, indoors. This unit was made to be portable if need be (all the pipes were not permanently cemented together). This design was also made to work in tandem with […]
